Cold… Is it a Guy Thing?

January 3, 2009 · By Kathee

Yesterday I embarked on an excursion into the gorgeous canyon area around Canyon Lake, AZ. Wow, the scenery was awesome! In my opinion, the Grand Canyon does not come close in comparison! I saw the snow covered 4-Peaks mountains, felt the toasty sunshine atop the mountain I climbed, and was inspired by the beautiful canyon and lake views all around me!

I came back to reality when we went fishing on the lake …

Naturally we picked the most shaded spot on the lake. Although I was dressed appropriately for the cool weather, I was hardly dressed for sitting in the shade on a frigid lake and freezing my little hiney off!

I was amazed at the sight of many fellows out on the lake, doing winter acrobatics in their jet skis in the middle of the winter!! Now don’t get me wrong folks, I’m not against the guys having fun on the lake. They were all wearing wetsuits, but I *DO* wonder if they really enjoyed feeling the icy spray against their faces on a day like that! I suppose their warmth comes from the adrenaline rush they get while racing around on the lake trying to impress their peers and pretend that they are comfortable!!

Just sitting on the sidelines I could feel the ache in my bones after just a short while. I quickly resorted to whining about the wintery chill and discovered to my amazement just how quickly I too could HEAT up!!!!

Upon arising this morning, I discovered my son had slept on the couch. He was wearing his boxer shorts, no shirt, and the ceiling fan was set on bull blast on the high setting. He looked so comfortable and serene as he slept with his legs outstretched on the couch.

As for me; I woke up still curled up in the fetal position, already shivering to the chill of the day … and I was wearing SWEATS to bed and was covered with THREE blankets!

It’s midmorning now and I’m STILL wearing my sweats, my insulated socks and my heavyweight terrycloth bathrobe. I’m wondering if I should even bother getting dressed for the day, knowing I have nothing warmer to wear than what I’m already wearing!

What is it with guys and COLD anyway?
